Why do we even need to use lip balm?

Lip skin is different from the rest of the skin on our body having no sebaceous (oil) or sweat glands. The protective layer known as the stratum Corneum is also much thinner on the lips than our facial skin. The lips therefore lack the ability to produce their own oil or hydrate the skin with sweat making them more prone to dryness. Our lips also have fewer cells which produce melanin (melanin gives skin its colour) making it more vulnerable to sun damage. Because of these reasons, it is very important to nourish and protect this delicate lip skin with quality humectants and moisturising oils. Beeswax is the hero ingredient here as it is a natural moisturiser and humectant all in one, having the ability to moisturise and hydrate at the same time. It also is know to be an occlusive meaning that it can seal in moisture. Mango Butter is a luxuriously creamy butter that is rich in essential fatty acids giving this lip balm the ability to last longer between applications.
